Hu, Hei, Duncan Gray! Scotland in the Scandinavian musical imagination
Special lecture-recital for the National Library of Scotland
In April 2009, a special lecture-recital exploring Scotland in the Scandinavian musical imagination was given at the National Library of Scotland by mezzo-soprano and musicologist Dr Sally Garden, with Donald Hawksworth (piano).
Featuring auld familiar folksongs in unfamiliar guises, masterfully sinister Scots ballad settings from Denmark, romantic 'skotske' opera arias, and exquisite Scandinavian settings of Robert Burns, Sally Garden's material was drawn specially together from Norway, Sweden and Finland in celebration of Scotland's 'Year of Homecoming'.
